Frequently asked questions

How does BreedTools verify a stud dog?+

Every stud in the directory is a live kennel profile — the owner is a registered BreedTools breeder who maintains the dog's health records, service history, and outcomes inside the platform. Reviews are token-gated (dam owners only get a review link after a completed service), so there are no spontaneous or bot-submitted testimonials.

What is a production record?+

A production record shows conception rate and average litter size computed from the stud's actual service history on BreedTools. If the stud owner turns it on, misses and retries appear alongside successful litters — no cherry-picking. Dam names and owners are always private.

What service methods can I filter by?+

Natural cover (live on-site), fresh AI (same-day), fresh-chilled AI (shipped overnight), and frozen AI (thawed from long-term storage). Each stud profile lists the methods that kennel offers.

Are the fees shown the final price?+

Fees listed on stud profiles are the base stud fee. Final cost depends on collection fees, shipping (for AI), facility transfer (for frozen), and any retry provisions. The stud owner will confirm the full quote when they reply to your inquiry.

Can I inquire before committing?+

Yes. Every stud profile has a direct inquiry form. You share your dam's breed, expected heat date, and preferred method — the inquiry lands in the stud owner's request pipeline and they reply via email. No cold phone calls, no DMs that get lost.

Do all dogs have health testing?+

The directory includes stud dogs at all stages of health testing. Each profile shows which CHIC-recommended tests are on file for that breed — a 5-of-6 clearances badge means five of the six breed-required tests have been completed. Always verify independently on ofa.org.
