Yes. The free tier is permanent, not a trial. No credit card required. You get 10 dogs, 1 active litter, full feature access (COI calculator, pedigree chart, growth curves, health records, breeder profile, stud profile, public puppy pages), 500MB photo storage, and CSV import + export. What's the catch with the free plan?
No catch. We're confident that breeders who try BreedTools at the free tier will upgrade once their kennel grows past 10 dogs or 1 active litter. The free plan is a fully-functional product, not a marketing tease. New accounts also get a 30-day Pro trial bonus when you first sign up — you experience the paid features, then decide if you need them.
Do I need a credit card to use the free plan?
No. Sign up with email or Google, no card. You'll only enter payment details if you actively choose to upgrade.
Will I see ads on the free plan?
No ads. Anywhere. Ever. We don't monetize free users with advertising — we monetize through paid subscriptions when free users grow past the limits and upgrade.
When do I actually need to pay?
When you hit 11+ dogs in your kennel, or want more than 1 active litter at a time, or need digital contracts with e-signature, the stud marketplace, financial tracking, team access, or frozen-semen inventory. Pro is $9/month or $79/year ($6.58/mo annualized) and includes all paid features — up to 3 team members and the frozen-semen tracker included.
Can I export my data from the free plan?
Yes. CSV export is available on the free plan. Dogs, litters, puppies, health records, expenses, photos — all yours, all exportable. We don't hold data hostage as a retention tactic.
Does the free plan work on my phone?
Yes — BreedTools is a Progressive Web App. Open it in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android), install to your home screen, and you have a full app experience without downloading from an app store. The same account syncs across every device.
Can I import my dogs from spreadsheets or another breeder app?
Yes — for free. The Settings → Import page accepts CSV from any source. We auto-detect column headers like name, breed, sex, date of birth, registration number, microchip, color, and notes. Switch tools without re-typing your records.
